As the forth in the author's Urban Fantasy series. Arcadia Bell is the fabled Moonchild with powers she is yet to understand. She isjust recovering from injuries from her last battle. When she discovers that she is pregnant and that her power hungry mother wants to steal her powers and may use her unborn child. Weak and confused, Arcadia is vulnerable. To protect herself and her child she decides to have her memory erased so they her mother cannot find her. When she wakes up she is confused and disoriented. And she has forgotten her boyfriend, Lon! As they both try to discover secrets behind Arcadia's past and the prophecy behind the Moonchild, Lon's son Jupe is also trying to help and finding himself in mischief. But what happens when Arcadia regains her memories? Will she be able to keep one step ahead of her vicious mother and more importantly, will she forgive Lon?
I would highly recommend reading these books in order. This book felt like a transition book. A lot is going on and seems to continue seamlessly from the prior book. Since I missed the prior book, Binding in the Shadows, I felt lost and it took me a while to reorient myself to the storyline. Arcadia has a lot to deal with, not only is she fumbling with her powers but she has memory loss, too! This story is tense and unpredictable so readers will not be bored. Arcadia's mother depth of evil reaches new lows. On the lighter side, Jupe, the son of Arcadia's lover, Lon. Is also growing into his powers. He is a fun read, precocious and always caught up in trouble. I think the best part is that Arcadia gets to know Lon again. So if you like their romance, you will get more! And it only proves they are meant to be together. I am just not sure how I feel about her becoming a mother. Which should make any future books (?) very interesting. However, this book was a bit darker and harder for me to get into. I enjoyed it, but I know I would have liked it more if I had read the prior book before reading this one.

Jenn Bennett sure knows how to make an exit!

2014 seems to be the year of series finales, and out of all of them, ARCADIA BELL has been the one that I’ve been dreading the most. Jenn Bennett is one of my top five go-to Urban Fantasy authors, and having to say goodbye to these beloved characters after only four books (and a novella) is heartbreaking. That point aside, BANISHING THE DARK is pure magic with its topsy-turvy plot, explosive chemistry and exceptional epilogue. And, the first ever chapters from Jupe’s POV are just… wow. I tried to savour this one—really, I did—but I was a goner after page one.
The showdown between Cady and her mother has been brewing since KINDLING THE MOON, and has finally reached its boiling point, but that’s not the only challenge Team Bell will have to face before they earn their HEA. Lon and Cady’s relationship gets put to the test in the most unlikely of ways which added an entertaining twist to their interactions throughout this book. I loved that the author made this installment all about “them”; although, I did find myself missing some of the secondary characters at times. The sexual tension actually surpassed the non-stop action in a few instances which helped ensure that this conclusion was pleasing on all fronts.
I adored Jupe’s role in this novel, and the couple of scenes from his POV made me desperately crave a novella from his viewpoint. I liked that he had just as big of a role to play in the Moonchild spell investigation as Cady and Lon did. His conversations with Priya were downright hilarious, and I loved that we got to witness his “first love”. His inclusion in the epilogue was a nice little bonus too. I never thought I’d count a teenage kid among my favourite characters, but Jupiter Butler is one of a kind!
No ARCADIA BELL book would be complete without an edge-of-your-seat story line, and the Moonchild investigation succeeds in delivering that and so much more. The curve balls will have you white knuckling your eReader, while the revelations will leave you scrapping your jaw up off the floor. It’s been a real challenge to write this review without spoilers because there are just so many things to squee about; needless to say, this installment certainly does not lack in the “oh s***” department.
Jenn Bennett certainly knows how to make an exit because BANISHING THE DARK ends on the highest of highs. Encore!!!

I have to say I fell in love with this series and I am so sad to see it end but the author takes it out on top and ties up all the loose ends so I am ok with having to say bye to it. We get back into the series by finding Cady and Lon picking up the pieces after the ending that pretty much tore me apart and left me with a hole in my heart. I love Cady more and more though because with all that happened to her she is so strong and resolved to not let it get her down. She is a true fighter and the love between her and Lon makes it all a little bit easier for her to handle because she has him to lean on. As we get more into the story we learn that Cady is racing aganist the clock to find out how she was conceived to take down her murderous mother. I have to say I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what her mom was so ruthless and cold blooded towards her own child. As we get more into the story there is something that takes place that left me feeling a little thrown for a loop but I loved the direction the author was taking and in the end it all worked out for the best. We got to also see Jupe more on his own although the direction he was taking I was hoping it all worked out for him and he wasn’t digging a big hole for himself to need help getting out of. I loved how resourceful and smart this kid was though and would love if the author made a spin off series for him as he gets older. Cady’s powers get amped up in this book and I loved seeing her come to grips with all of it. She really held herself together well with all that was thrown at her. Overall I think the author wrapped up this series in a perfect way. I had a few times in the book that I thinking Cady wasn’t going to make it through but she managed to pull through. The author took me on an emotional roller coaster throughout this book but in the end my heart was mended and I was happy again. The action was ten times better than what it has been in the previous books as we jumped right into the action and it continued until the end of the book. I will really miss this series but the author made it all ok in the way that she had the series end. I am so happy for the outcome of the characters and to see them get their happily ever after.
