About the Author
Born in 1948, Barry grew up in Memphis, Tennessee until age nine then his family moved to Tampa, Florida. He attended school in Tampa from grade school to college. He has served in the U.S. Navy, Tampa Police Department, Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission, United Methodist Church, and the US Army. He is now retired in Land O Lakes, Florida enjoying his two grandsons and volunteering in his local church, the Community Volunteer Corps, the Veteran's National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida presiding over funerals and as a chaplain on Holland America Line.

Present for my wife - she loves it! She sits all day long in an office and loves these stretches.

I purchased this book as a present for my wife. She works in an office environment and she loves it! The book has images and descriptions of various yoga moves she can do at her desk, and she actually got a couple other people in the office participating as well.

The Best Thing I Did For Myself This Year!

Kristin McGee has totally transformed my life and I can't thank her enough!! I spent the majority of my pregnancy on bed rest w/ severe hyperperemesis gravidarum and then came out of an emergency c-section w/ two broken ribs. Needless to say, my body felt destroyed and everything hurt in a way that I have never experienced before. Kristen's Chair Yoga book and method have kept me going and helped to get me back on track. I've come to realize that I absolutely can not take care of my baby or my business if I can't take care of myself. THIS book is the answer! If your mobility is limited or you only have 2 minutes, Chair Yoga is for you! Kristin McGee also happens to be a Super Mama herself, so she really knows what she's talking about!!

Recommended reading concerning Vietnam

This is the seminal work relating to how we got ourselves immersed in Vietnam. I'm a Vietnam Veteran, and I have always thought our reasons for being there were misguided at best. In this exhaustive look at the gradual build-up to the maximum troop levels in 1969, it is apparent that our reasons were much less than misguided. It makes me angry that many good people died in this war, this senseless, stupid exercise of power gone awry. It is very sad not only that the Vietnam War occurred, it is very apparent that we fail to learn from the lessons of history (read: Iraq and Afghanistan).

"The Best and the Brightest" is an excellent work, deserving of the Pulitzer Prize awarded to Mr. Halberstam.

Even though I voluntarily served in Vietnam, I was sadly ignorant of my purpose, which was basically cannon fodder for the United States' military-industrial complex. My eyes were opened by the incredible waste of money and systematic destruction of a country I witnessed while there. But I remained basically uninformed about the politics that sent me half way round the world. For anyone who still is interested in that story, "The Best and the Brightest" is a must read.

A must-read for anyone who is interested in the Vietnam War.

This is an exceptionally well-written book about the way John F. Kennedy's idealistically selected cabinet dragged us down the muddy, dirty, twisted road and into the Vietnam conflagration. Nowhere, save in McMaster's more recent treatment (Dereliction of Duty, 1996) is the critical role of Robert S. McNamara in this debacle, so critically or accurately portrayed. Halberstam treats a number of critical subplots, too, such as the destruction of the "flexible response advocates" among the junior officer corps by Eisenhower's Secretary of Defense, the lamentable "Engine Charlie" Wilson, or the enmity between distinguished paratroop commanders Maxwell Taylor and James Gavin, or LBJ's complete consternation with Kennedy's Undersecretary of State for Southeast Asia, the decorated veteran of Merrill's Marauders and the OSS, Roger Hilsman (arguably the only man in the administration who knew anything at all about Southeast Asia in General and Vietnam in particular). An added value of Halberstam's treatment comes in the form of his detailed, insightful and assiduous character studies of all the principals, from nominal Republican McGeorge Bundy, the only non-PhD ever to serve as Harvard's Dean of the Undergraduate school, to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, intellectually despised by his mentor, Dean Acheson. This work is a must-read for anyone interested in both the Kennedy administration and in the question of how we got snookered into this impossible war in the first place.

Great Mystery by a New Author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery story by a wonderful new Author, Arthur Israel. There were twists and turns and plenty of red herrings in the telling of the story of a young girl who dies after eating pizza with her family. Who did it and why will have you guessing up until the very end of the book!
This story is well written with captivating characters. I can't wait to see what Mr. Israel comes up with next!

Good story - writing-not so much

I did like the story line, and the unexpected ending, but the characters really didn't appeal to me so much. No spelling, syntax or grammar errors.
Con:
Very stilted writing, and lot of tedious descriptions that did not contribute to the story line at all.
Grammatically correct but reads as if English is not the author's first language. Very stiff dialogue.Some editing would have helped to make this book more enjoyable.

A quality post-colonial study

Revell's book is very much a study of its time: The early 21st century. It is a revision of her dissertation (sometimes rather obviously), which was a quality examination of how provincial architectural spaces were employed. Revell doesn't take the "This is a Romano-British styled building, combining ___ Mediterranean features and ___ British features" approach. Instead, she explores the archaeological data from various locales, and reads from it how the structures were used in their time. From these, she makes a number of quality statements about the manifestation of local identities in certain locales, avoiding the pitfalls of "Romanization", "resistance", and other traditional and modern catchwords. She instead presents a good picture of the use of various sites and structures, and how local identities were performed through them (and not Britain/Gaul as a whole).

Revell divides her study according to type of structure, addressing public buildings, religious sanctuaries, before discussing identity and status more generally. She demonstrates a sensitivity to archaeological detail and creativity of interpretation. Additionally, her discussion is limited to the evidence provided by selected case-studies, and therefore maintains appropriate limits.

Revell questions both "What is Roman?" and "What is local?", taking the responsible approach that there was no monolithic "Roman" or "British" or "Gallic" identity. Instead, she explores the manifestation of Roman and local identity at various sites, and provides the necessary qualifications in her interpretation. However, I was glad to see that she is not afraid to make claims and to interpret the evidence. Too often in post-colonial studies, scholars discuss the problems of interpretation, the problems of Romanness, the problems of nativeness, and never actually provide an interpretation of the evidence. It is a difficult thing to do today, for fear of being challenged by a number of preeminent scholars. However, Revell does so skillfully.

In her own words from the section "Addressing the Divine", "Roman religion needs to be examined as a discourse functioning within both the context and the power structures of the empire as a whole, and the particular local conditions of any specific community" (115) and she then addresses other scholars' arguments before presenting a discussion of local identity manifested through religious practice.

The only fault of Revell's study is that it is still too close to her dissertation. She needed to take more time to revise her dissertation into a monograph, a daunting and difficult task - to her credit. However, she's presented a quite compelling study, and one that has significantly influenced the direction of my own dissertation!
